Do You Know Your Rights To Your Data As A Shop Owner?

June 17, 20251 min read

Today we’re talking about what you need to know when working with other agencies, knowing the rights to your data and why that’s so important.

There's a hidden cost to many agency relationships.

Last month, we had a shop come up to us and wanted us to audit their marketing presence. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get access to their system because they were working with another agency that was holding their data hostage.

The agency’s excuse?

"We can't grant access to anyone else."

This is a huge red flag.

Transparency vs. Control

When an agency says this, it tells you one of two things:

1. They're managing multiple clients under one account, which is a big no-no for data security and campaign optimization.

2. They're clinging to control, essentially holding your valuable data (custom audiences, pixels, etc.) hostage to prevent you from leaving if you’re unhappy.

Shop Owners, Know Your Rights

You NEED to own your data, and own your ad accounts - period. Don't settle for an agency that operates in the shadows or tries to lock you in with fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD). Great agencies operate with transparency and collaboration. They serve their clients, not the other way around.

Know your data, know your information, and know your rights as a customer.

If your agency is making it difficult to access your accounts, it's time to ask some tough questions. Demand transparency. You deserve a partner, not a dictator.
